Are You Presby Lasik Material
Now we all know lasik was intended to correct either myopia or hyperopia but what if you have both eye conditions? The fact is if you are suffering from presbyopia there is a laser surgery called presby lasik. Of course presbyopia does not mean you are suffering from both conditions but you do have symptoms from both eye conditions. So we'll take a look at how the procedure works, the risks involved and the outcome of the surgery. Although this surgery is not new anymore you might want to take your time on this once you understand the results of the surgery.
Now before starting anything, presby lasik is a laser eye surgery in which your cornea will be reshaped in order to correct presbyopia. For those of you who do not really know what presbyopia is here is a simple explanation. Let's say you are nearsighted, this means you need glasses to see far but probably won't need them to see close. If you add presbyopia to this, you will still need glasses to see far but if you keep on those glasses you might not be able to see near you. It's sort of like myopia where you will only be able to use classes to see from medium-range to long-range distance.
The presby lasik procedure is pretty similar to a standard lasik procedure but of course there will be some slight variations. This surgery is also known as multifocal lasik because the principal is the same as artificial multifocal lenses. So how does the work? Well your eye surgeon will use laser technology to correct your cornea just like in a lasik procedure but because you are suffering from presbyopia your doctor will have to correct different parts of your eye for seeing at near too far distances. Because of its instability, this surgery is still considered by many experimental which means it is approved but not completed yet.
So what can go wrong with presby lasik? Well because you are suffering from multiple conditions the surgery might not be able to correct all of these conditions so you might have perfect vision for awhile but it might tend towards blurred distance vision. The problem with multifocal lasik is some of these side effects might not go away. Just like artificial multifocal lenses you might develop bigger risks of reduced contrast and sensitivity. There is also a high probability that you will develop a tendency to see halos around lights at night. After all these negative facts is it still possible to consider this surgery a possibility? The answer is yes but only if you respect all the criteria for the surgery. That means you have to be 100% eligible for presby lasik if you want to have a high success rate in the operation. Recent studies have shown that candidates suffering from farsightedness are far more closer to a successful operation than people suffering from myopia. Remember this is still considered an experimental surgery so if you do want to take the surgery, talk with your eye surgeon and make sure you fit the profile. Unfortunately if you are suffering from presbyopia there are not many surgeries that can correct it so if you don't mind keeping the glasses and contact lenses, you should stick to the old-fashioned method of correction. If you must absolutely get rid of your glasses then choosing presby lasik could be a possibility but you do need to understand the risks involved and the information provided by your eye surgeon because it will greatly reassure you before making a life altering decision.
